CIPRESSI GEMMA MARIA
Phd Project in Geoscience 39° Gemma Maria Cipressi
This PhD project focuses on the seismological characterization of the Montello–Collalto area in the Eastern Southern Alps, Italy. The work combines the development of a new three-dimensional seismic velocity model with the construction of a high-resolution, homogeneous earthquake catalogue. The 3D velocity model (Fig.1) is developed using seismic velocities measured directly on representative rock samples in the laboratory, together with geological and petrophysical information. This approach aims to improve the representation of the shallow crust and the localization of seismic events.

In parallel, seismic data from national, regional, local, and temporary networks are integrated and homogenized. The analysis considers different existing catalogues, station datasets, and velocity models, which can introduce systematic differences in earthquake locations. A centralized relocation using a single optimized local velocity model will provide a consistent catalogue for investigating the spatial distribution and characteristics of seismicity in the Montello–Collalto area (Fig.2).
